FAQs

Who is eligible to open a Simply Checking account?

Anyone age 13 and up who lives or works within one of the counties we serve in Indiana or Michigan, or is related to a current Everwise member, is eligible to become a member and open a Simply Checking account. Teens ages 13–17 open jointly with a parent or guardian at a branch.

What do I need to bring to open my teen's Simply Checking account at a branch?

A parent or guardian needs a valid ID, plus the minor's birth certificate or government-issued ID. The whole process is quick — 30 minutes.

Will I be able to see my teen's account activity?

Yes. If you open as a joint account holder, you'll have full visibility into the account — including transactions and balances — through online and mobile banking. You can also set up custom notifications to alert you of specific activity, like if the balance gets too low, a purchase made over a certain amount, or if your teen has shopped at specific retailers. Teens 18+ years can open an account with or without another adult.

Are there any monthly account fees or minimum balance requirements?

Simply Checking comes with no monthly service fees and no minimum balance requirements.

What happens when my teen turns 18?

Once your teen turns 18, the account setup stays the same, no change happens automatically. The parent can choose to remove themselves from the account by visiting a branch or calling member services at (800) 552-4745.

The best time to start is now.

Financial confidence doesn't happen overnight — it starts with small moments, real decisions, and a little room to learn. Simply Checking gives your teen a safe, structured place to do exactly that, with you right there alongside them. You're not just opening an account. You're helping them build something that lasts.
